Pocketed Collared Neck Button‑Up Jacket — Fit, Materials & Care
How to measure
Use a flexible cloth tape measure. For best accuracy, measure over undergarments or the layer you plan to wear under the jacket. Keep the tape parallel to the floor and relaxed (don’t pull tight).
Measure your body (to pick a size)
- Chest / Bust: Measure around the fullest part of your chest/bust, under the arms, with arms relaxed at your sides. Record the measurement with the tape snug but not tight.
- Waist: Measure at your natural waistline (the narrowest point), keeping the tape parallel to the floor.
- Hips: Measure around the fullest part of your hips while standing with feet together.
- Shoulder width: Measure across your back from the outer bone at one shoulder to the outer bone at the other shoulder.
- Sleeve length: For body measurement, measure from the center back at the base of the neck, across the top of the shoulder and down to the wrist with a slightly bent elbow.
- Jacket length preference: Decide where you want the hem to fall (waist, hip, mid-thigh) and compare to garment length below.
Measure a jacket (flat) — to compare to size chart
- Prepare: Lay the jacket on a flat surface, button closed and smooth out wrinkles (don’t stretch fabric).
- Chest (pit‑to‑pit): Measure straight across 1" (2.5 cm) below the armholes from side seam to side seam, then double that number to get the full circumference.
- Shoulder width: Measure seam‑to‑seam across the back from shoulder point to shoulder point. For raglan or drop‑shoulder styles, measure the widest point across the upper back.
- Sleeve length: Measure from the shoulder seam to the end of the cuff. For center‑back measurements, measure from center back at the collar base to the cuff across the shoulder for overall sleeve length.
- Back length: Measure from the center back at the base of the collar straight down to the hem.
- Hem width: Measure straight across the bottom hem from side seam to side seam and double for circumference.
Tip: If you want to layer bulky knits under the jacket, add 1–2" (2.5–5 cm) of ease at the chest measurement. 1 in = 2.54 cm.
Materials & construction
Below are common material components and what they mean for performance and care. Check the product label for the exact composition of this specific jacket.
- Shell (typical): Cotton twill or cotton/poly blend — medium‑weight and durable; breathes well and softens with wear. A cotton/poly blend adds wrinkle and shrink resistance.
- Lining (if present): Polyester taffeta or acetate — smooth for easy layering; fully or partially lined jackets feel warmer and slide on/off more easily.
- Trims & fastenings: Buttons (corozo, plastic, or metal), metal snaps or rivets — choose metal for a rugged/look and corozo for natural, matte finish.
- Interfacing & reinforcement: Fusible interfacing at collar, button placket and pocket openings to keep structure and shape.
Why it matters: cotton gives a natural, casual look and breathability; polyester adds durability and quick‑drying performance; the lining and interfacing affect drape and warmth.

Care guide — to keep it lovely longer
- Routine washing: Machine wash cold on gentle cycle with like colors. Turn the jacket inside out and fasten buttons to protect hardware.
- Drying: Reshape and hang to dry. If using a dryer, tumble low and remove promptly to reduce wrinkles; air‑drying preserves fit and color.
- Ironing & steaming: Iron inside out on medium heat if needed, or use a steamer to remove wrinkles. Avoid direct high heat on trims and buttons.
- Stain care: Blot spills immediately with a clean cloth. Treat stains with a mild detergent solution and test on an inside seam first. Avoid harsh bleach.
- Dry clean: Recommended for jackets with wool blends, delicate linings or structured tailoring. Follow the care label instructions.
- Storage: Hang on a broad, supportive hanger to keep shoulder shape. Store in a breathable garment bag for long‑term storage and use cedar or lavender to deter moths.
- Minor repairs: Keep spare buttons and match thread for small repairs; re‑stitch loose seams promptly to prevent further damage.
Style tips
- Casual everyday: Wear open over a crewneck tee, straight or skinny jeans and low‑top sneakers. Roll the sleeves once for a relaxed vibe.
- Layered street style: Throw on over a lightweight hoodie for a modern layered look; size up if you plan this frequently.
- Smart‑casual: Button up over an Oxford shirt or fine knit jumper and pair with chinos and desert boots or loafers.
- Workwear edge: Combine with straight‑leg work pants and sturdy leather boots; use the pockets for practical everyday carry.
- Proportions: Balance a boxy, cropped jacket with slim or tapered bottoms; pair a longer jacket with higher‑waisted trousers for a clean silhouette.
- Accessories: Add a lightweight scarf, leather belt or a structured bag to elevate the look. Metal hardware pairs well with leather accents.
