Opal and Zircon Contrast Ring — Product details, measuring guide, care & style

How to measure

1) Measure your finger (find your ring size)
  1. Use a soft strip of paper or non-stretch string. Wrap it snugly around the base of the finger, mark where it overlaps, then measure the marked length in millimetres. That length is the finger circumference.
  2. Match the circumference to a ring size (see quick reference table below). Measure at the end of the day when fingers are warm; avoid measuring when hands are cold or immediately after exercise.
  3. If the knuckle is much larger than the base of the finger, measure both and choose a size that slides over the knuckle comfortably; you may prefer a slightly larger size.
  4. For wider bands (6 mm+), choose 0.5–1 size larger than the value you get for a narrow band, because wider rings feel tighter.
  5. Alternative: measure an existing ring that fits the intended finger. Measure its internal diameter across the center (in mm) and compare with the table below.
Common size quick reference (US size → internal diameter / circumference)
US Internal diameter (mm) Circumference / finger (mm)

515.749.3
616.551.9
717.354.4
818.157.0
918.959.5

2) Measure the product (ring dimensions)
  • Internal diameter — with a caliper or ruler, measure the flat distance straight across the inside of the band at its widest interior point (in mm).
  • Band width — measure the band across the top (in mm) to understand how it will sit and feel.
  • Band thickness — measure the cross-section thickness to know the weight/feel.
  • Stone size — measure the visible face of the center opal and any accent zircons (length × width in mm). For round stones, measure the diameter.
  • Ring height (profile) — measure from the top of the band to the highest point of the setting to know how it will catch on clothing.
  • Weight — use a precise jewelry scale (grams) if you need the exact heft for shipping or comparison.

Materials — what they are and what to expect

Opal
Opal is a hydrated silica gemstone prized for its play‑of‑color. Typical characteristics:
  • Mohs hardness: ~5.5–6.5 (softer than many gems — handle gently).
  • Sensitivity: can be affected by heat, strong chemicals, ultrasonic/steam cleaners and sudden changes in humidity or temperature.
  • Types: precious opal (showing play‑of‑color), common opal, and lab‑created opal (more uniform and often more durable).
Zircon (and cubic zirconia — note the difference)
The name "zircon" can refer to a natural gemstone (zircon) or, in some listings, sellers may mean cubic zirconia (CZ), which is synthetic. Quick differences:
  • Natural zircon — a brilliant natural gem with Mohs hardness roughly 6–7.5; often heat-treated for color.
  • Cubic zirconia (CZ) — lab-made diamond simulant, harder and very sparkly (Mohs ~8–8.5); commonly used as an affordable diamond alternative.
If the listing uses simply “zircon,” check product details or ask the seller if it’s natural zircon or CZ to know durability and value expectations.
Metal (common options)
Typical metals for contrast rings include:
  • 925 sterling silver — 92.5% silver with alloyed metal; durable but can tarnish; often finished with rhodium plating for extra shine and protection.
  • Gold vermeil — thick gold plating over sterling silver (more durable than thin plated brass).
  • Gold-plated brass or base metals — economical but plating will wear over time and may need re-plating.
If you have metal allergies, look for “nickel-free,” solid gold, or verified hypoallergenic finishes in the product specifications.

Model information

For reference in photos: the photographed model is wearing a US size 6 (internal diameter ≈ 16.5 mm). Use the measuring guide above to match your own measurements to a size that fits you comfortably.

Care guide — keep it lovely longer

  • Daily wear: avoid showering, swimming (chlorine/salt), heavy cleaning and vigorous exercise while wearing the ring.
  • Cosmetics & chemicals: put the ring on after applying lotions, perfumes, hairspray and makeup; remove before using household cleaners.
  • Cleaning:
    • Opal: gently wipe with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use ultrasonic or steam cleaners and avoid harsh chemicals.
    • Zircon / CZ: soak briefly in warm soapy water and gently brush with a soft brush; rinse and dry thoroughly.
    • Metal (sterling silver): use a silver polishing cloth for tarnish; for plated pieces, clean gently with mild soap and soft cloth — avoid abrasive polish to prevent wearing the plating.
  • Storage: store the ring separately in a soft pouch or lined box to avoid scratches. Keep opal away from extreme dryness or heat; a stable, moderate environment is best.
  • Maintenance: check prongs and settings periodically. Have plating refreshed or prongs tightened by a professional jeweller when needed.

Style tips

  • Make it the centerpiece: wear the Opal and Zircon Contrast Ring alone on a finger for a clean, statement look.
  • Stacking: pair with slim, plain bands in the same metal tone for a layered effect; place thinner bands above and below for balance.
  • Color harmony: opal’s subtle play‑of‑color works beautifully with neutral or pastel outfits; bright zircon accents add evening sparkle for dressier looks.
  • Coordinate metals: match other jewellery (earrings, necklace) to the ring’s metal finish for a cohesive appearance, or mix metals intentionally for a modern contrast look.
  • Nail & styling tip: choose nail polish that picks up one of the opal’s hues (soft pink, blue or green) to make the colours pop.

Note: if you need exact material certifications (e.g., natural vs. lab-created opal or type of zircon) or precise product dimensions, please check the product specification section on the listing or contact the seller for the certificate provided with the item.
