Men's Round Neck Long Sleeve Sweater
How to measure
Tools: flexible measuring tape, flat surface, a friend (optional). Two reliable methods: measure the garment laid flat (recommended for comparing to product specs) and measure your body (for fit preference).
Measuring the garment (recommended)
Lay the sweater flat on a smooth surface and smooth out wrinkles without stretching. Record flat measurements and multiply by 2 where noted to get full circumferences.
- Chest (pit to pit): Measure straight across 1 cm (about 1/2") below the armholes from one side seam to the other. Multiply by 2 for chest circumference.
- Front length: From the highest point of the shoulder (next to the collar) down to the hem.
- Shoulder width: From shoulder seam to shoulder seam across the back. For raglan or seam-free shoulders, measure from the base of neck to sleeve seam point and use the garment's back width for reference.
- Sleeve length (set-in sleeve): From the shoulder seam to the end of the cuff. If the site uses centre-back-sleeve measurement, measure from the centre back of the neck to the cuff.
- Hem width: Measure across the bottom hem from side to side and multiply by 2 for full circumference.
- Cuff width: Measure flat across the cuff and multiply by 2.
Example: Chest (flat) = 21" → chest circumference = 42". Recommended ease: fitted 0–2 cm, regular 2–6 cm, oversized 6+ cm above your body measurement.
Measuring your body
- Chest: Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest and shoulder blades, under armpits, keeping it level.
- Shoulder: Measure across the back from tip of one shoulder to the tip of the other.
- Arm length: From centre back of neck to wrist (with elbow slightly bent) for whole-arm reference, or from shoulder tip to wrist for set-in sleeves.
- Torso length: From base of neck down to where you want the sweater to end (waist, hip, mid-hip).
Tip: Compare your body measurements to the garment flat measurements (not to the size label) and allow the ease you prefer for layering.
Materials — how to find them and what they mean
Where to find exact composition: check the sewn-in care/label inside the sweater, the product description on the page, or the swing tag. Below are common materials for this style and what to expect from each.
| Material | Typical properties | Care at a glance |
|---|---|---|
| 100% Cotton | Soft, breathable, good for cool-to-mild weather. Holds color well, minimal itch. | Machine wash cold gentle; reshape and dry flat; low-heat iron if needed. |
| Merino Wool | Lightweight, excellent insulation and breathability, odor-resistant, low itch if fine gauge. | Hand wash or wool cycle with wool detergent; dry flat; avoid tumble drying. |
| Cashmere | Exceptionally soft and warm, lightweight and luxurious; delicate and prone to pilling. | Hand wash cold with special detergent or dry clean; dry flat; fold for storage. |
| Acrylic | Affordable, warm, easy-care; can feel synthetic and be more prone to pilling. | Machine wash gentle cold; tumble low only if label allows, otherwise dry flat. |
| Polyester / Nylon blends | Durable, shape-retaining, quick-drying; often blended to improve durability and cost. | Machine wash cold gentle; tumble low if permitted; avoid high heat. |
| Viscose / Rayon blends | Soft, drapey and smooth; adds sheen but can be delicate when wet. | Hand wash or delicate machine cycle; dry flat; some items may require dry cleaning. |
| Wool blends | Combines warmth of wool with durability of synthetics; easier care than 100% wool. | Follow the most delicate fiber's care instructions — usually gentle wash or dry clean; dry flat. |
Note: When the item is a blend, follow the care recommendation for the most delicate fiber listed on the label.
Model & fit reference
Fit reference (used to show how the sweater looks on a wearer):
- Model height: 6'1" (185 cm)
- Model chest: 38" (96 cm)
- Model wearing: Size M
- Displayed fit: Regular fit — sits close to the body while allowing a thin base layer.
If you prefer layering or a relaxed look, consider sizing up one size. For a snug, tailored look, choose your measured size or size down when between sizes and comfortable doing so.
Care Guide (to keep it lovely longer)
- Read the care label first. Follow manufacturer instructions — they override general guidance.
- Wash less often. Air out between wears; spot clean small stains to reduce full washes.
- Use the right detergent and temperature. Use mild or wool-specific detergents; cold water prevents shrinkage and color loss.
- Choose gentle handling. Hand wash or delicate machine cycle. Turn the sweater inside out before washing to protect the surface.
- Dry flat and reshape. Never wring; lay on a towel, reshape to original dimensions and dry away from direct heat.
- Avoid hanging. Fold for storage to prevent shoulder stretching. Use padded hangers only for short-term storage.
- Remove pills gently. Use a fabric comb, pill remover or a sweater stone. Test a small area first.
- Repair promptly. Tuck snags to the inside or secure with a small stitch. For larger damage, consult a mender or tailor.
- Seasonal storage: Wash or clean before storing; keep in breathable cotton bags and add cedar or lavender to deter moths.
- Steam instead of iron: Use a steamer to refresh and remove wrinkles; if ironing, use low heat and a pressing cloth.
Style Tips
- Everyday casual: Pair with slim or straight denim and sneakers. A small front tuck adds shape without looking overstyled.
- Smart-casual / office: Layer over a button-down shirt and pair with chinos or tailored trousers and loafers or derby shoes.
- Layering: Use a thin crew or tee underneath to protect the sweater from body oils and extend time between washes; layer a blazer or coat on top for colder days.
- Color pairings: Navy works well with tan, grey, or olive. Charcoal pairs with light denim or khaki; cream or beige pairs with dark denim or navy.
- Proportions: Balance bulkier knits with slimmer bottoms. For fitted sweaters, slightly looser trousers keep the overall look balanced.
- Accessories: A leather watch, simple scarf or clean trainers elevate the look without overpowering the sweater’s simplicity.
- Travel-friendly picks: Choose blends with synthetics for wrinkle resistance and durability; keep a lint roller and mini pill remover in your bag.
