How to measure

Use a soft measuring tape. For the most accurate fit, measure a shirt you already own that fits the way you like (garment measurement) or measure your body directly. Lay the shirt flat on a table and smooth out wrinkles — do not stretch the fabric.

Measuring your body
  • Chest: Measure around the fullest part of your chest, under the arms, keeping tape level.
  • Neck: Measure at the base of your neck where a collar would sit.
  • Shoulder: Measure across the back between the outermost points of your shoulders.
  • Use these body measurements to compare to the garment measurements (flat × 2) and allow ease: about 1–2" (2.5–5 cm) for a fitted look, 2–4" (5–10 cm) for a comfortable relaxed fit, 4–6"+ (10–15+ cm) for a very relaxed or layered fit.

Materials

Hawaiian shirts are made from several common fabrics; below are typical options and what to expect from each.

  • Rayon / Viscose — lightweight, silky drape and breathable; excellent for tropical climates. Tends to be delicate and may shrink with heat; handle with gentle care.
