How to measure this shirt

Use a flexible tape measure and a flat surface. Measure the garment laid flat (buttoned) or measure a similar shirt that fits you best — then compare to the size chart. Record measurements in centimetres and inches (1 in = 2.54 cm).

  1. Chest (pit-to-pit → circumference)
Lay the shirt flat, buttoned. Measure straight across the front from one armpit seam to the other. Double that number to get the full chest circumference.
  2. Shoulder width
Measure across the back from the outside edge of one shoulder seam to the outside edge of the opposite shoulder seam.
  3. Sleeve length
With the sleeve laid flat and smoothed, measure from the shoulder seam to the end of the cuff. (If you need a “neck-to-cuff” length for layering, measure from the center back base of the neck to the shoulder seam and then down the sleeve to the cuff.)
  4. Body length
Measure from the highest point of the shoulder (next to the collar seam) straight down to the hem. For shirts with a curved hem, measure both front and back if they differ.
  5. Hem width
Measure across the bottom hem from one side to the other and double for the full hem circumference.
  6. Cuff width & collar band
Lay the cuff flat and measure across, then double for circumference. Measure the collar band left-to-right when the top button is fastened.

Quick tips: measure a shirt that fits you the way you want to wear this one; allow 1–2 cm (0.5–1 in) tolerance for comfort; if you are between sizes, choose based on chest and shoulder measurements and whether you want a slim or relaxed fit.

How to take your body measurements (for comparison)

  • Chest: Measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape level and snug (not tight).
  • Shoulder span: Measure across the back from the edge of one shoulder to the other.
  • Arm length: With the arm relaxed at your side, measure from shoulder point (where the seam of a well-fitting shirt sits) down to the wrist.
  • Neck: Measure around the base of your neck where a collar would sit.

Materials (what to expect)

Check the product label for the exact fabric composition. Typical materials and components for a "Button Down Collared Neck Contrast Openwork Shirt" include:

  • Main openwork fabric (eyelet, lace or open-knit): commonly 100% cotton or cotton blends (cotton-viscose, cotton-linen). Breathable and lightweight; decorative perforations create texture and slight transparency in places.
  • Contrast pieces (collar, placket, inner yoke): often made from poplin, twill or a finely woven cotton/poly blend to add structure and crisp edges.
  • Buttons & trim: buttons are typically resin, corozo (vegetable ivory) or mother-of-pearl look; thread is usually polyester for durability. Interfacings in collars/plackets may be fused or sewn.

Behavioral notes: openwork areas are more prone to snags and can be slightly sheer — they breathe well and are cool in warm weather. Contrast fabrics give structure to the collar and button band. For precise fiber content and country-of-origin refer to the sewn-in label.

Model information

Reference example used for product photography (for size perspective):

  • Model height: 6'1" (185 cm)
  • Model measurements: Chest 38" (97 cm) / Waist 30" (76 cm)
  • Wearing size: M

Fit shown: relaxed-regular silhouette. If you prefer a closer, tailored look, consider sizing down; for roomy layering, size up. Always compare garment measurements to your own body measurements.

Care guide (to keep it lovely longer)

  • Pre-wash: Fasten buttons and turn the shirt inside out to protect the openwork and contrast trims.
  • Machine wash: Use a gentle/delicate cycle with cold or lukewarm water (≤30°C / ≤86°F). Place the shirt in a mesh laundry bag to reduce abrasion.
  • Hand wash: Preferred for delicate openwork — use mild detergent, gently agitate, rinse thoroughly.
  • Bleach & stain care: Avoid chlorine bleach. Use oxygen-based whiteners for whites and a color-safe stain remover for colored fabrics. Always patch-test first.
  • Drying: Reshape while damp and lay flat or hang on a padded hanger to dry. Avoid high-heat tumble drying to prevent shrinkage and damage to trims.
  • Ironing: Iron inside out on low-to-medium heat. Use a pressing cloth over openwork areas and avoid direct high heat on buttons and trims. Steam is kinder than heavy pressing.
  • Storage: Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Fold or hang on a hanger with rounded shoulders; for long-term storage use a breathable garment bag.
  • Snag & repair: Mend loose threads promptly; avoid cutting threads close to fabric. For significant repairs consult a tailor.

Always follow the care symbols on the garment’s sewn label for best results.

Style tips

  • Casual summer: Wear untucked over chinos or tailored shorts with canvas sneakers or espadrilles. Choose a neutral or matching undershirt if desired.
  • Smart-casual: Button up and pair with an unstructured blazer and chinos or dark denim; tuck in for a cleaner look and add loafers.
  • Layered look: Use as an overshirt — leave unbuttoned over a plain tee. Because of the openwork texture, a contrast undershirt (light or dark) will change the look dramatically.
  • Accessorize carefully: Minimal jewelry and smooth accessories reduce the risk of snagging the openwork. Match belt and shoe tones to the shirt’s warm or cool color family.
  • Office to evening: For office wear choose muted colors and pair with tailored trousers; for evening swap to slimmer jeans and leather shoes.

Pro tip: Because openwork can be semi-sheer, a slim cotton or modal undershirt in a coordinating color delivers coverage without hiding the shirt’s texture.
