How to measure
Use a soft tape measure and measure the garment laid flat on a smooth surface. Record measurements in inches or centimeters (1 in = 2.54 cm). For the most accurate fit, measure a similar shirt you already own and compare the numbers.
- Chest (full circumference) — Button the shirt, lay it flat and smooth. Measure from one underarm seam to the other across the front, then multiply that number by 2.
- Shoulder (seam to seam) — Measure straight across the top of the back from one shoulder seam to the other where the sleeve meets the shoulder.
- Sleeve length — Measure from the shoulder seam to the end of the cuff. For a center-back sleeve measurement, measure from the center back of the neck over the shoulder and down to the cuff.
- Shirt length — Measure from the highest point of the shoulder (next to the collar seam) straight down to the bottom hem.
- Collar (neck) — Measure the inside circumference of the collar or measure the collar opening laid flat and double that measurement.
- Waist / Hem — Measure across the narrowest part of the shirt body (or across the bottom hem), then multiply by 2 for circumference.
Quick tips: measure twice for accuracy, smooth out wrinkles before measuring, and allow 1–2 inches (2.5–5 cm) extra at the chest for a relaxed fit or choose your exact body measurements for a slimmer fit.
Materials
Below are the most common materials and trims used for a checkered eyelet button‑down shirt and what they mean for wear and care.
- Main fabric — Eyelet cotton (commonly 100% cotton): lightweight, breathable and soft. Eyelet is an embroidered openwork pattern (small cutouts) that increases ventilation and creates a textured look.
- Cotton–Linen blends: natural texture and extra breathability; ideal for warm weather but slightly more prone to wrinkling.
- Cotton–Polyester blends: increased durability and wrinkle resistance; may slightly change the soft hand or drape versus pure cotton.
- Lining (if included): typically a lightweight cotton voile or poplin to ensure modesty where eyelet holes are larger.
- Trims: buttons are often plastic, corozo or mother-of-pearl; thread is usually polyester or cotton-wrapped polyester for strength.
Note: Exact material composition varies by style—always check the product label or the product details on the page for the specific fabric breakdown for your item.

Care guide — to keep it lovely longer
- Washing: Machine wash cold on a gentle/delicates cycle or hand wash. Turn the shirt inside out to protect the eyelet embroidery and details.
- Protect: Use a mesh laundry bag when machine-washing to reduce snagging around the eyelet openings.
- Detergent & chemicals: Use mild detergent. Do not use bleach. Avoid heavy fabric softeners that can reduce breathability.
- Drying: Air-dry by hanging or lay flat to dry in the shade. Avoid high-heat tumble drying; if necessary, tumble dry on the lowest heat and remove promptly to prevent over-shrinking.
- Ironing & steaming: Iron inside out on low–medium heat or use a steamer. Use a pressing cloth over eyelet areas to protect embroidery and avoid flattening the texture.
- Stains: Treat stains promptly with a gentle spot cleaner; dab rather than rub to avoid stretching or fraying eyelet holes.
- Storage: Hang on a padded or wooden hanger to preserve shoulder shape, or fold neatly. Keep away from prolonged direct sunlight to prevent fading.
- Repairs: Mend loose threads around eyelet holes quickly with fine needlework to avoid larger tears.
Style tips
- Casual: Wear untucked over slim or straight jeans with white sneakers. Roll the sleeves to the forearm for an easy, warm-weather look.
- Smart casual: Tuck into chinos (navy, tan or olive), add a leather belt and loafers. Layer with a lightweight blazer for evenings.
- Summer-ready: Wear open over a light tee or tank with linen shorts and sandals or espadrilles—the eyelet fabric breathes well in heat.
- Layering: Pop the collar over a thin knit or wear under a crew-neck sweater with the collar visible for a refined layered look.
- Color & balance: Since the shirt has a checkered pattern, pair it with solid bottoms and echo one of the pattern colors in your accessories for cohesion.
- Accessories: Keep accessories minimal — a leather watch strap, simple bracelet or sunglasses. Avoid bulky jewelry that could catch on eyelet holes.
- Dressier option: Tuck in, add tailored trousers and polished leather shoes for a refined appearance while letting the shirt’s texture remain the focal point.
