How to measure
Measuring the garment (lay flat)
For accurate product measurements, lay the pants flat on a smooth surface, zip/button closed and smooth out wrinkles. Measure straight across and multiply flat measurements by 2 to get the full circumference.
- Waist: Measure straight across the top edge of the waistband from left to right. Multiply by 2.
- Hips: Measure across the fullest part of the seat about 1"–2" (2.5–5 cm) below the crotch seam. Multiply by 2.
- Front rise: Measure from the crotch seam (where the legs meet) up to the top of the front waistband.
- Back rise: Measure from the crotch seam to the top of the back waistband.
- Inseam: Measure from the crotch seam along the inside leg to the hem.
- Outseam / Total length: Measure from the top of the waistband to the bottom hem along the outside leg.
- Thigh: Measure straight across the leg 1" (2.5 cm) below the crotch seam. Multiply by 2.
- Knee: Measure across the knee area (roughly 12" / 30 cm below the crotch for most styles). Multiply by 2.
- Leg opening / Hem: Measure across the hem. Multiply by 2.
Tips: Use a soft measuring tape, keep measurements parallel to seams, and record both cm and inches (1 in = 2.54 cm). For stretch fabrics, measure gently without stretching the fabric.
Measuring your body
- Natural waist: Measure the narrowest part of your torso—usually above the belly button and below the ribcage.
- Hips: Measure around the fullest part of your hips and buttocks.
- Inseam: Measure from the crotch to the floor (or to desired hemline) while standing straight, wearing the shoe height you plan to pair with the pants.
- Rise preference: To check where the waistband will sit, compare your natural waist position to the garment's front rise measurement.
Compare: Always compare your body measurements to the garment laid-flat measurements rather than relying only on size labels. If you prefer a roomier fit in a wide leg, consider sizing up; for a more tailored look, size down or consult the size chart.
Materials & fabric details
High-waist wide-leg pants are made in a range of fabrics. Below are common options and what to expect from each. Check the product label for the exact composition.
- Cotton twill / cotton blend — e.g., 97% cotton, 3% elastane. Breathable, structured with slight recovery from elastane. Comfortable for everyday wear; holds shape well.
- Linen or linen blends — e.g., 55% linen, 45% viscose. Lightweight and airy with natural texture; great for warm weather but prone to natural creasing.
- Polyester / rayon / viscose blends — drapey, wrinkle-resistant, and often used for a fluid wide-leg silhouette. May include a small percentage of elastane for stretch.
- Crepe or gabardine — slightly textured, good drape and polish; ideal for a dressier look.
- Wool blends — warmer and structured for autumn/winter; usually recommended to dry clean per label.
Hardware & trim: Typical details include a metal or plastic zipper (often YKK), button or hook closure, and side pockets or back welts. Pocket bags are commonly cotton or polyester lining.
How to read the label: The fabric composition line (e.g., 97% Cotton, 3% Elastane) indicates the content by weight. Fabric type and weight determine drape and care—lighter fabrics drape, heavier weaves hold structure.

Care guide (to keep it lovely longer)
Everyday care
- Empty pockets and turn pants inside out before washing to protect hardware and surface finish.
- Zip and fasten closures to reduce snagging.
- Avoid over-washing—spot-clean when possible and air garments between wears.
Washing & drying (general rules)
- Machine-washable blends (cotton/poly blends): Cold or warm gentle cycle, mild detergent. Tumble dry low or hang to dry to minimize shrinkage.
- Synthetic or drapey blends (polyester/viscose blends): Cold wash, gentle spin; hang to dry or tumble on low. Remove promptly to reduce wrinkles.
- Linen or linen blends: Cold or lukewarm gentle wash; reshape while damp and hang flat or line dry. Iron while slightly damp for best results.
- Wool blends and structured garments: Follow label—many are dry-clean only.
Ironing, steaming & finishing
- Iron inside out on the recommended heat setting for the fabric. Use a press cloth for delicate fibers.
- Steaming is ideal for drapey wide-leg pants—it smooths wrinkles without flattening texture.
- For cotton/elastane: medium-high iron; avoid direct high heat on elastane areas.
Stain removal & minor repairs
- Treat stains promptly—blot liquids, pre-treat with a gentle stain remover suitable for the fabric.
- For pilling, use a fabric shaver carefully. Mend small seam issues early to prevent larger damage.
Storage
- Hang trousers on a clip or bar hanger to keep the leg straight and avoid creases at the hem.
- For long-term storage, store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent fading.
Quick fabric-specific care at a glance
- Cotton/elastane: Machine wash cold, tumble low or line dry, iron medium.
- Poly blends / viscose: Cold wash, hang dry, low-heat iron or steam.
- Linen: Gentle wash, hang or flat dry, iron while damp.
- Wool blends: Dry clean recommended unless label states otherwise.
Style tips
High-waist wide-leg pants with pockets are versatile. Here are ways to wear them and styling pointers:
- Office / polished: Tuck in a crisp button-down or silk blouse, add a structured blazer, and finish with pointed-toe heels or loafers.
- Casual / weekend: Pair with a fitted tee or lightweight knit tucked in, denim jacket, and white sneakers or flat sandals.
- Evening / night out: Wear with a fitted cami, statement jewelry, and strappy heels to balance the volume of the leg.
- Layering: A cropped jacket or a belt helps define the waist when wearing bulky layers; long coats work best when the pant hem grazes the shoe.
- Petite styling: Choose a slightly narrower leg opening or shorten the hem to ankle length; wear heels to elongate the silhouette.
- Tall styling: Embrace full-length wide legs; consider proportion by keeping the top fitted or cropped.
- Accessories: Belts highlight the high waist; tuck or half-tuck tops to show the waistband and create a balanced silhouette.
Pro tip: If you want a more tailored look, have the waist or hem adjusted by a tailor rather than altering the leg width—this preserves the intended wide-leg silhouette.
