How to measure — Geometric Button Down Slit Jacket
Use a soft measuring tape and measure with the jacket laid flat on a table. Fasten any buttons and smooth out wrinkles (do not stretch the fabric). Record measurements in centimetres or inches and round to the nearest 0.5 cm / 1⁄4 in. To convert: 1 in = 2.54 cm. For chest/hem/bicep measurements taken flat, multiply by 2 to get the full circumference.
- Chest (Pit to Pit)
- Measure straight across the front from one armpit seam to the other (at the fullest part of the chest). Multiply by 2 for chest circumference.
- Shoulder Width
- Measure from outer shoulder seam to outer shoulder seam in a straight line across the back.
- Sleeve Length
- Measure from the shoulder seam to the end of the cuff. If the jacket has a raglan sleeve (no defined shoulder seam), measure from the center back of the neck to the cuff.
- Bicep
- Measure across the sleeve about 3 cm (1 in) below the armhole seam. Multiply by 2 for circumference.
- Cuff / Wrist
- Measure across the cuff opening and multiply by 2 for the circumference.
- Back Length (HPS to Hem)
- Measure from the high point of the shoulder (HPS — the top of the shoulder where it meets the base of the neck) straight down to the hem.
- Front Length
- With the jacket buttoned, measure from the base of the front collar or shoulder seam (as relevant) down to the hem.
- Hem Width
- Measure across the bottom hem and multiply by 2 for the circumference.
- Side Slit Length
- Measure from the hem up to the top of the slit so you know how high the opening sits when worn.
Fit & ease guide: compare garment circumference to your body measurement and allow extra for comfort. Typical ease recommendations: fitted look +2–4 cm, regular fit +4–8 cm, relaxed/oversized +8–15 cm.
Materials
Check the sewn-in care label or the product details on the product page for exact fibre content. If you can’t find the label, the following are common materials and what to expect from them:
- Polyester / Polyester blends — durable, holds shape, wrinkle resistant; wash gentle/cold and avoid high heat when drying or ironing.
- Viscose / Rayon — soft drape and breathable; can be delicate when wet — prefer hand wash or gentle cycle and dry flat.
- Wool / Wool blends — warm and breathable; often dry-clean recommended to preserve shape and finish.
- Cotton — breathable and easy-care but can shrink; wash cold and reshape while damp.
- Elastane / Spandex (small %) — adds stretch and recovery; machine wash cold, avoid high heat.
- Lining — usually 100% polyester or acetate to aid layering and drape; care instructions follow the most delicate component.
- Trims (buttons, zips) — may be shell, corozo, metal or plastic; treat gently and avoid harsh cleaners on decorative trims.
Typical example composition (for reference only): Shell: 65% Polyester / 32% Viscose / 3% Elastane. Lining: 100% Polyester. Exact composition may vary — always follow the garment’s care label.
Model information & fit notes
Use model measurements as a fit guide when selecting your size.
- Example model details
- Height: 177 cm (5'10") — Wearing size: S. (Example measurements: Bust 81 cm, Waist 61 cm, Hips 89 cm.)
- Fit note
- The Geometric Button Down Slit Jacket is designed to have a tailored yet slightly relaxed silhouette with side slits for movement. If you plan to layer thicker knitwear underneath, consider sizing up one size. If you are between sizes and prefer a closer fit, choose the smaller size.
Care Guide (to keep it lovely longer)
- Always follow the care label. When in doubt, professional dry cleaning is safest for structured, lined or wool-containing jackets.
- Frequent freshening: Hang the jacket after each wear on a shaped hanger to help it air out and retain its shape. Use a fabric brush or lint roller to remove surface dust and lint.
- Washing: If the label allows machine wash, turn the jacket inside out, fasten buttons, use a gentle/delicate cycle with cold water and mild detergent. Otherwise hand wash gently. Do not bleach.
- Drying: Reshape while damp and lay flat to dry or hang on a shaped hanger. Avoid tumble drying unless the care label explicitly allows it — heat can shrink or damage interfacings and linings.
- Ironing & steaming: Steam is preferred to remove wrinkles. If ironing, use the lowest suitable temperature for the fabric and a pressing cloth; iron inside out and avoid pressing directly on trims or prints.
- Spot cleaning: Treat spills immediately with a damp cloth and gentle detergent; dab, don’t rub. For oil-based stains or persistent marks, take the jacket to a professional cleaner.
- Storage: Store on wide, supportive hangers in a cool, dry place. Use breathable garment bags (cotton) for long-term storage — avoid sealed plastic which can trap moisture. Place tissue in shoulders to keep shape if needed.
- Hardware & trims: Wipe metal or shell buttons gently with a soft cloth to remove oils. Repair loose buttons promptly to avoid damage.
Style Tips
- Smart office: Button up or half-button over a silk blouse, pair with tailored trousers and low heels for a polished work look.
- Casual weekend: Wear unbuttoned over a plain tee with high-rise jeans and clean sneakers. Roll the sleeves for a relaxed vibe.
- Evening: Layer over a slip dress or a fitted knit dress and add heeled ankle boots or strappy sandals for a refined evening outfit.
- Balance proportions: Because the jacket has slits, balance the open lower panels with slim or high-waisted bottoms. For an oversized jacket, pair with slim trousers or a pencil skirt to keep proportions flattering.
- Print coordination: Let the geometric pattern be the focal point — combine with solid-colour pieces that pick up one tone from the print for an elegant, cohesive look.
- Accessories: Minimal jewellery works best with patterned jackets. For plain versions, try a statement brooch or a narrow belt to define the waist.
- Seasonal tips: Spring/summer — light cami or tee underneath. Autumn/winter — layer over a thin roll-neck or lightweight knit and pair with boots.
- Travel-friendly: Pack with tissue between folds to reduce creasing and wear unbuttoned on travel days for comfort and quick styling.
