How to measure
For the best fit, measure a pair of pants that already fits you well or measure your body directly. Use a soft tape measure and record measurements in inches or centimetres (1 in = 2.54 cm). When measuring a garment laid flat, double the flat measurement to get the circumference unless noted otherwise.
- Waist (flat) — Lay the pants flat, fasten the waistband. Measure straight across the top of the waistband (do not stretch elastic). Double this number for the full waist circumference. For drawstring/elastic waists, also measure while the waistband is gently stretched to see the full range.
- Hips — With the pants flat, measure across the fullest part of the seat/hip area (usually 6–8 cm / 2–3" below the crotch seam). Double the flat measurement for the hip circumference.
- Inseam — Measure from the crotch seam (where the legs meet) down the inside leg seam to the hem. This gives the leg length.
- Outseam — Measure from the top edge of the waistband down the outside seam to the hem for the total length.
- Front rise — Measure from the crotch seam straight up to the top of the front waistband. This tells you how high the pants sit on the waist.
- Thigh — Measure across the leg 2.5 cm / 1" below the crotch seam, then double the flat measurement.
