Pendant measurements
- Height: Measure from the very bottom of the ballet shoe to the top of the bail (the loop). Some listings show height without the bail—check which is used.
- Width: Measure across the widest part of the shoe (sole area).
- Thickness/Depth: Measure the side profile at the thickest point.
- Bail opening (inner size): If you plan to swap chains, measure the inner height and width of the bail to ensure your chain or clasp can pass through.
Tip: To visualize size, draw the pendant’s height and width on paper or compare to a coin: dime ≈ 17.9 mm, penny ≈ 19.0 mm, nickel ≈ 21.2 mm, quarter ≈ 24.3 mm.
Chain length and fit
- Measure your neck: Wrap a soft tape around the base of your neck (or use string then measure it).
- Find your comfortable length: Add 2–4 inches (5–10 cm) to that measurement for a classic pendant fit.
- Choose your look:
- 14 in (35 cm): choker
- 16 in (40 cm): high collarbone
- 18 in (45 cm): at collarbone (most popular for pendants)
- 20–22 in (50–55 cm): just below collarbone; great for layering
- 24–30 in (60–76 cm): matinee to long; over knitwear
- Chain thickness: If listed in millimeters, 1.0–1.5 mm is delicate, 1.6–2.0 mm is medium, 2.1–3.0 mm is sturdy for everyday wear.
If you already own a necklace you like, lay it flat and measure end-to-end (including clasp) to match the feel.
