How to measure
Measure your finger (best fit)
- Measure at the end of the day when fingers are warm and at normal body temperature—cold makes fingers smaller.
- Wrap a strip of paper, a thin strip of string or dental floss snugly around the base of your finger where the ring will sit.
- Mark where the paper/string overlaps, then measure that length with a millimetre ruler to get the inner circumference (mm).
- Compare that circumference to a ring-size chart (see table below) or convert circumference to diameter by dividing by π (3.1416): diameter = circumference ÷ π.
- If your knuckle is larger than the base of the finger, measure both—choose a size between the two measurements or the larger size for an easy fit. When in doubt, choose a slightly larger size; a very tight ring is harder to resize.
Measure an existing ring
- Measure the inner diameter across the widest inner points with a caliper or a ruler (mm).
- Use the diameter to find the corresponding size in the table below (or convert to circumference: circumference = diameter × π).
Approximate ring size guide (common sizes)

| 8.5 | 18.6 | 58.5 |

What 5 carats means for the stone size
Carat is a weight measure; face‑up dimensions (mm) depend strongly on the cut and depth. Typical face-up size ranges for a ~5.0 ct sapphire:
| Cut | Approximate face-up dimensions (mm) |
|---|---|
| Round | ~9.8 – 10.8 mm diameter |
| Oval | ~11 – 13 mm length × 8 – 10 mm width |
| Cushion | ~9.5 – 11.5 mm across (shape dependent) |
| Emerald / Step cuts | ~11 – 13 mm length × 8 – 10 mm width |
| Marquise / Pear | ~13 – 15 mm length × 6 – 9 mm width |
These are approximate—proportions (shallow vs. deep cuts) significantly change the face-up appearance. For exact millimetre measurements, see the product specification or request a certified gem report.
Materials — what this ring is made of
Lab-grown sapphire (corundum)
- Chemistry: aluminium oxide (Al2O3), same chemical composition as natural sapphire.
- Physical properties: Mohs hardness ~9 (very hard and durable); refractive index ≈ 1.762–1.770; specific gravity ≈ 3.98–4.06.
- Appearance: vivid, even colour is common in lab-grown stones; available in the same colour range as natural sapphires (classic blue, pink, yellow, etc.).
- Growth methods: typically grown in labs by techniques such as flame-fusion, Czochralski, flux or hydrothermal processes. Lab-grown stones are chemically, physically and optically equivalent to natural stones.
- Treatments and certification: lab-grown sapphires may be heat-treated or treated to improve colour/clarity; ask for any available gem report or certificate that describes origin and treatments.
Platinum-plated band
- What “platinum-plated” means: a thin layer of platinum (or a platinum alloy) is applied over a base metal to give the appearance and surface properties of platinum.
- Common base metals under plating: sterling silver, brass, copper or stainless steel—check the product page for the exact base metal.
- Advantages: bright white finish, good resistance to tarnish, elegant look. May reduce allergic reactions while the plating remains intact.
- Notes about wear: plating is a thin surface layer (measured in microns) and will wear over time with everyday use. Re‑plating is a standard jeweller service to restore the finish.

Care guide — to keep it lovely longer
- Daily wear: remove the ring for heavy manual tasks, gardening, sports and when using strong chemicals (bleach, detergents, chlorine in pools) to protect the plating and setting.
- Cleaning (gentle method): soak in warm water with a few drops of mild dish soap for 10 minutes, use a soft-bristled brush to remove debris around the setting, rinse thoroughly and pat dry with a soft cloth. Buff gently with a microfiber cloth.
- Avoid abrasives: do not use abrasive polishes or hard brushes on plated surfaces—these will wear the plating faster.
- Ultrasonic/steam cleaning: lab-grown sapphires themselves tolerate ultrasonic/steam cleaners, but plated jewellery and certain settings may be damaged—check with the seller or jeweller before using these methods.
- Storage: store the ring separately in a soft pouch or lined box to avoid scratches from other jewellery; keep away from prolonged humidity and household chemicals.
- Maintenance: have prongs and settings checked by a jeweller at least once a year; re-plating is a normal service when the finish begins to thin or show wear.
- Quick shine between cleanings: gently wipe the metal and stone with a soft cloth to remove oils and fingerprints.
Style tips
- Statement use: a 5 ct sapphire ring is an excellent statement or occasion piece—wear it solo on the ring or middle finger to let the sapphire stand out.
- Stacking and pairing: pair with slim white‑metal bands or delicate diamond bands for balance; keep adjacent bands thin to avoid obscuring the centre stone.
- Mixing metals: platinum-plated white metal pairs beautifully with diamonds and cool-tone jewellery; for a contemporary look, try mixing with warm metals (rose or yellow gold) for contrast.
- Outfit colours: blue sapphires pop against neutral palettes (black, white, beige) and complement cool tones (navy, grey) and soft pastels (blush, pale blue). For other sapphire colours, select complementary or tonal clothing shades.
- Everyday vs. evening: for daytime wear, match the ring to minimal jewellery and clean lines; for evening, amplify with coordinating gemstone or diamond accents for a luxe look.
For specific styling (bridal, everyday, stacked looks) and exact measurements please refer to the SKU/specification box on the product page or contact the seller for additional photos and model references.
