Wide Leg Pants with Pockets
How to measure
We recommend measuring the garment laid flat for the most accurate online sizing. If you’re measuring your body to choose a size, follow the body-measuring tips below.
- Prepare: Fasten the waistband, lay the pants on a flat surface and smooth out wrinkles. Use a flexible tape measure and record both cm and inches if helpful (1 in = 2.54 cm).
- Waist (flat): Measure straight across the top edge of the waistband from side seam to side seam. Double that number to get the waist circumference.
- Hips (flat): Measure straight across the widest part of the seat when the pants are laid flat (usually 18–25 cm / 7–10 in down from the top). Double to get the hip circumference.
- Front rise: Measure from the crotch seam (where the inner seams meet) up to the top of the front waistband.
- Back rise: Measure from the crotch seam up to the top of the back waistband.
- Inseam: Measure from the crotch seam down the inner leg seam to the hem.
- Outseam / Full length: Measure from the top of the waistband down the side seam to the hem.
- Thigh: Measure across the leg 2–3 cm (about 1 in) below the crotch seam; double the flat measurement for circumference.
- Leg opening / Hem: Measure straight across the hem at the leg opening; double it for the full circumference.
- Pocket depth: Insert the tape measure into the pocket opening and measure to the bottom of the pocket. Also check pocket width by measuring the opening across.
Body-measuring tips: measure while standing with relaxed posture, keep the tape snug but not tight, and compare these numbers to a favorite pair of pants laid flat. For stretch fabrics, allow less extra ease; for non-stretch fabrics, allow extra ease for comfort and movement.
Materials — what to expect
Wide-leg pants come in many fabrics. Below are common options and what they mean for fit, feel and care.
- Cotton (100% or cotton blends) — breathable, structured look, comfortable. May soften with wear; can shrink if washed hot. Care: cool wash, tumble low or line dry, iron medium.
- Linen / Linen blends — airy, natural texture, good drape, more prone to creasing. Care: hand wash or gentle cold cycle, line dry, steam or iron while slightly damp.
- Viscose / Rayon — fluid drape and silky handfeel, ideal for a wide-flowing silhouette. Can weaken when wet. Care: gentle wash, hang to dry, steam to remove wrinkles.
- Polyester & blends — durable, wrinkle-resistant, holds shape well. Care: machine wash cold or warm, tumble low; low heat iron if needed.
- Denim — heavier, casual; may be rigid at first and soften with wear. Care: wash inside out in cold water to preserve color.
- Wool & wool blends — warm and polished for fall/winter styles. Often dry-clean only for best results.
Tip: check the garment’s care label for exact fabric percentages (e.g., "98% cotton, 2% elastane") and follow the printed care symbols for best results.
About the model
Example fit reference: the model is 178 cm (5'10") tall and is wearing a size S (EU 36 / US 4). Model measurements: bust 84 cm / 33", waist 62 cm / 24.5", hips 90 cm / 35.5".
Fit note: the photographed pair shows a relaxed, mid-to-high rise wide-leg silhouette. If you prefer a slimmer waist or less volume, consider sizing down; if you need extra hip or thigh room or prefer a longer length, consider sizing up. For petite or tall heights, check the inseam/outseam against a favorite pair and alter as needed.
Care guide (to keep it lovely longer)
- Always check and follow the garment care label first.
- Turn pants inside out before washing to protect color and trims.
- Use a gentle detergent and a cold or cool wash cycle for most fabrics to reduce shrinkage and color loss.
- Avoid bleach and strong stain removers unless the care label allows them.
- Line dry or lay flat to dry where possible; tumble dry only if the label permits and use low heat.
- Iron on the appropriate setting for the fabric — lower heat for synthetics, medium for cotton, steam for linen and viscose. Iron inside out to protect the face of the fabric.
- For wool, structured tailoring or delicate finishes, follow dry-clean instructions when recommended.
- Store on a hanger with clips or a padded hanger to preserve shape, or fold neatly to avoid deep creases. Avoid overcrowded storage.
- Spot-treat stains promptly with a mild detergent and cold water; test on a hidden area first.
- Don’t overload pockets — heavy items can distort the drape and wear out seams faster.
Quick fabric-specific notes: linen likes gentle handling and air drying; cotton-elastane blends tolerate more machine use but avoid high heat; viscose benefits from gentle washing and prompt reshaping while damp.
Style tips
- Show the waist: Tuck in a fitted top or wear a cropped sweater to define your waist and balance the wide leg.
- Shoes for every mood: Heels or wedges elongate the leg; sneakers and loafers create a relaxed look; ankle boots work well in cooler months.
- Proportion play: Pair the roomy silhouette with a structured blazer or a fitted bodysuit to keep the overall look polished.
- Belts work wonders: Add a statement or slim belt to create shape and add detail at the waist.
- Layer thoughtfully: Long coats or duster cardigans create elegant vertical lines; cropped jackets emphasize the waist.
- Day to night: For daytime, try a cotton tee and loafers; swap to a silk blouse and heeled sandals for evening.
- Accessorize: Long necklaces and structured bags complement the flowing silhouette; avoid overly bulky shoulder bags that compete with the wide leg.
- Pocket styling: Keep pockets tidy—avoid bulky or uneven items that will distort the pants’ drape.
- Alterations: Hemming the inseam or taking in the waistband keeps a tailored look—consider a tailor for perfect proportions.
