How to measure

Measure your foot (for best fit)

1. Gather a ruler or tape measure, a sheet of paper, a pen and wear the type of sock you plan to use with the flats.
2. Place the paper on a flat, hard floor against a wall. Stand with your heel lightly touching the wall and your full weight on the foot being measured.
3. Mark the tip of your longest toe on the paper. Repeat for the other foot — always use the larger measurement when choosing a size.
4. Measure the distance from the edge of the paper that touched the wall (heel line) to the longest-toe mark. Record the measurement in centimeters (preferred) and inches.
5. Measure foot width across the widest part (the ball of the foot). If you have wide feet, note that many athletic flats run narrow and you may want a half size up or a wide option.
6. Allow some toe room: for flats we recommend about 5–10 mm (0.2–0.4 in) extra length beyond your longest toe for comfort and movement.
7. Measure in the evening when feet are naturally slightly more swollen for the most accurate fit.

Measure the shoe (for listing or comparison)

1. Lay the shoe flat. If possible, remove the insole and measure it from the heel to the toe (this is the insole length).
2. If the insole is fixed, measure interior length from heel counter to the start of the toe box inside the shoe, or measure the outsole length as an external reference.
3. Measure width across the inside at the widest point (ball area). For product listings include both insole length and widest interior width.
4. Measure heel height from the bottom of the sole to the top of the heel counter (most athletic flats have low heels under 2 cm / 0.8 in).
5. Note whether the insole is removable — this affects orthotic compatibility and fit adjustments.
