Openwork Open Front Long Sleeve Cardigan
How to measure
Use a soft measuring tape. Measure a similar-fitting cardigan laid flat for the most accurate garment comparison, or measure your body for recommended size choice.
- Chest / Bust (garment) — Lay the cardigan flat, smooth out wrinkles. Measure straight across from underarm seam to underarm seam. Double that number to get the chest circumference.
- Shoulder width — Measure across the back from shoulder seam to shoulder seam. For drop-shoulder or raglan styles, measure from the highest point where you want the shoulder to sit.
- Sleeve length — Measure from the shoulder seam (or center back neck for raglan) down the outside of the sleeve to the cuff.
- Back length / Centre back length — Measure from the base of the neck (center back) straight down to the hem.
- Hem width — Measure across the bottom of the cardigan and double for the full hem circumference.
- Armhole / Sleeve opening — Measure around the armhole seam or across the sleeve cuff (flat) and double to get circumference.
Tip: To compare with your body, measure a well-fitting cardigan you already own and compare those garment measurements with the product’s size chart. Always measure in both cm and inches if possible.
Materials & fabric information
Openwork cardigans are usually knit in lightweight yarns and can be made from one or a blend of the fibers below. Check the garment label or product page for the exact composition.
- Common fibers
-
- Cotton — breathable, soft, comfortable for warm weather; may shrink slightly and can wrinkle.
- Viscose / Rayon / Modal — very soft with good drape and a slightly silky feel; may stretch when wet and benefit from gentle washing and flat drying.
- Acrylic — lightweight, warm and low-cost alternative to wool; resists moths and dries quickly but can pill over time.
- Polyester / Nylon — durable, shape-retaining and quick-drying; often blended in small amounts to add strength and reduce stretching.
- Wool or wool blends — warm and insulating; often require gentler care (hand wash or wool cycle / dry clean preferred).
- What the fibers mean for you
-
- Breathability: natural fibers (cotton, wool, viscose) breathe better than synthetics.
- Care level: synthetics are usually easier to machine wash; natural fibers may need gentler handling.
- Pilling: acrylic and some blends are more prone to pilling; use a fabric shaver as needed.
Always refer to the sewn-in care label for the definitive fiber mix and care recommendations.
Model information
Example model reference (for fit guidance):
- Height: 175 cm / 5'9"
- Bust: 81 cm / 32"
- Waist: 61 cm / 24"
- Hips: 89 cm / 35"
- Wearing size: S (shown in product photography)
Fit note: this open front cardigan is designed with an open/relaxed silhouette. If you prefer a more fitted look, consider sizing down; for layering over sweaters, opt for your normal size or one up.
Care guide (to keep it lovely longer)
- Washing — Prefer gentle cycle with cold water or hand wash. Place in a mesh bag if machine washing.
- Detergent — Use a mild detergent. Avoid bleach and strong stain removers unless the care label permits them.
- Drying — Gently reshape and lay flat to dry on a clean towel or drying rack. Avoid tumble drying to prevent shrinking and loss of shape.
- Ironing / steaming — If needed, use low heat and protect the knit with a pressing cloth. Steaming is a good alternative to remove wrinkles without flattening the texture.
- Storage — Fold and store flat; avoid hanging heavy knits for long periods (can stretch shoulders). Keep away from direct sunlight and damp conditions.
- Pilling — Remove pills gently with a fabric shaver or pill comb. Turn garment inside out before washing to reduce surface abrasion.
- Spot care — Blot spills immediately with a clean cloth and mild soap solution; avoid vigorous rubbing which can distort openwork patterns.
- Delicate trims — If the cardigan has beads, metallic thread, or sequin trims, follow the garment label — such pieces often require hand wash or dry clean.
Style tips
- Layering: Wear over a simple tank, camisole or fitted tee to show the openwork detail. For cooler days, layer over a thin turtleneck.
- Belt it: Add a slim belt at the waist to convert the open front into a defined silhouette for work or evenings out.
- Casual: Pair with high-waisted jeans and sneakers for an easy everyday look.
- Office: Drape over a blouse and tailored trousers; choose neutral tones for a polished, professional outfit.
- Dressy: Layer over a slip dress or midi dress and add heeled sandals or ankle boots for a feminine, textured contrast.
- Accessories: Long necklaces and delicate scarves work well with openwork patterns — keep accessories lightweight so the knit remains the focal point.
- Color play: Put a contrasting camisole underneath to highlight the openwork pattern, or go tonal for a soft, elegant finish.
