Openwork Buttoned Square Neck Sweater

How to Measure

Lay the sweater flat on a table, button it up, smooth without stretching, and measure with a soft tape. Record to the nearest 0.5 cm (or 1/4 in). Knit garments can vary by 1–2 cm.

  • Bust/Chest Width: Measure straight across 2–3 cm below the armhole seam. Double this number for the full circumference.
  • Shoulder Width: Measure from shoulder seam to shoulder seam across the back. For drop-shoulder styles, measure seam-end to seam-end.
  • Sleeve Length: From the top of the shoulder seam to the end of the cuff. If there’s no defined shoulder seam (raglan), measure from center back neck to cuff.
  • Body Length (Front): From the high point shoulder (where shoulder meets neckline) straight down to the hem.
  • Back Length: From center back neck to hem.
  • Hem/Sweep Width: Measure straight across the bottom hem; double for the full sweep.
  • Square Neckline Width & Depth: Width: measure straight across the inner edges of the neckline; Depth: measure vertically from high shoulder point to the lowest part of the square neckline at center front.
  • Armhole Depth: From the top of the shoulder seam down to the underarm seam.
  • Cuff Width: Measure straight across the cuff (relaxed).
  • Button Placket Length: Measure along the placket from the top edge to the bottom edge of the garment.

Tip: Because openwork knits stretch, you can optionally note both relaxed and gently stretched widths. Compare to a similar sweater you already own for the best size match.

Materials & Feel

Exact fiber composition can vary by color or production lot. Openwork sweaters are commonly knit from the following yarns (or blends):

  • Cotton: Breathable and soft with a matte look; holds stitch definition; may relax with wear. Best reshaped while drying.
  • Viscose/Modal: Cool, silky hand and fluid drape; more delicate when wet—handle gently and dry flat.
  • Acrylic: Lightweight and warm with easy care; can pill with friction—wash inside out and avoid rough surfaces.
  • Nylon/Polyamide/Elastane (in small %): Adds strength, shape retention, and resilience to openwork stitches.
  • Wool/Merino: Naturally warm, breathable, and resilient; wash with wool-safe detergent and minimal agitation.
  • Alpaca/Mohair: Airy halo and plush warmth; may shed lightly—wear with smooth layers beneath.

What to expect from an openwork knit:

  • Sheerness: Moderate to high—perfect for layering.
  • Stretch: Moderate, with recovery depending on fiber blend.
  • Texture: Airy and breathable with visible stitch pattern.

Check the garment tag or product details for the exact fiber percentages.

Model Information

Model measurements and size worn may vary by photo set. When available, we display model height, bust, waist, hip, and the size worn on the product page.

  • The square neckline frames the collarbone; openwork shows underlayers used in styling.
  • On-body images illustrate a neat, feminine silhouette. Choose your regular size for a close fit; size up for added ease or layering.

Care Guide (to keep it lovely longer)

  • Before washing: Fasten buttons, turn inside out, and place in a mesh laundry bag to protect the openwork. Remove jewelry that could snag.
  • Wash: Hand wash in cold water with mild (wool/delicate) detergent, or use a gentle/delicate cycle with low spin. Avoid bleach and fabric softeners.
  • Rinse & press: Do not wring. Press out excess water with a towel.
  • Dry: Reshape to measurements and lay flat on a dry towel away from direct heat or sun. Do not tumble dry. Never hang when wet.
  • Finish: Steam lightly from the inside if needed. Avoid high heat, especially on blends with nylon/elastane or acrylic.
  • Storage: Fold and store flat; avoid hangers to prevent stretching. Keep away from rough surfaces that can snag. Use cedar/lavender for moth deterrence on woolly fibers.
  • Snags & pills: For snags, gently pull the loop to the inside with a crochet hook—do not cut. Remove pills with a sweater comb or fabric shaver.
  • Buttons: Check and reinforce loose buttons as needed; keep fastened during wash to maintain placket shape.

Style Tips

  • Layer smart: Add a nude or tonal camisole for coverage; try a lace bralette for a hint of texture; in cooler months, layer over a fine turtleneck or fitted long-sleeve tee.
  • Neckline highlight: The square neck pairs well with short pendants, a choker, or layered delicate chains.
  • Bottoms: Tuck into high-rise denim or tailored trousers for polish; balance with a satin or slip midi skirt for evening.
  • Shoes: Loafers or ballet flats for day; ankle boots for transitional weather; strappy heels for night.
  • Buttons your way: Wear fully buttoned for a refined look, unbutton the top one or two for casual ease, or style open like a light cardigan over a tank or dress.
  • Texture play: Let the openwork shine by pairing with smooth fabrics (silk, satin, coated denim). Avoid rough bags or jewelry that could snag.
  • Fit mood: Choose true size for a close, feminine fit; size up for a relaxed, slightly slouchy vibe.
