How to measure — garment (laid flat)
Measure the pants on a flat, smooth surface. Fasten any buttons/zips and smooth wrinkles but don’t stretch the fabric. Multiply any “flat” measurement by 2 to get the full circumference.
- Waist: Measure straight across the top of the waistband from left to right, then x2 for the waist circumference.
- Hip: Measure across the fullest part of the seat (about 18–20 cm / 7–8 in down from the crotch seam), then x2.
- Front rise: From the top center of the front waistband down to the crotch seam.
- Back rise: From the top center of the back waistband down to the crotch seam.
- Inseam: From the crotch seam down the inside leg seam to the hem.
- Outseam: From the top of the waistband down the outer seam to the hem.
- Thigh: Measure across the thigh 5 cm (2 in) below the crotch seam, then x2 for the circumference.
- Hem / leg opening: Measure across the hem and x2 for the opening circumference.
- Pleat note: For inverted pleats, let the pleat fall naturally (do not press it flat beyond its shape) and measure with the pleat in its natural position.
On-body measuring: To compare, measure your natural waist (narrowest point) and full hips (widest point). Allow 3–6 cm (1–2.5 in) of ease at the hip for a relaxed wide-leg drape. Conversion: 1 in = 2.54 cm. Typical tolerance for ready-to-wear: ±1–2 cm.
Materials
Check the garment label for exact composition. Below are common fabric types used for a structured, inverted-pleat wide-leg pant and what to expect from each:
- Polyester / polyester blends — crisp drape, crease-resistant and easy-care; often machine washable.
- Viscose / rayon — soft and fluid with good drape; may need gentle washing and reshaping while damp.
- Cotton / cotton blends — breathable and comfortable; may wrinkle and can shrink if washed in hot water.
- Linen / linen blends — textured, very breathable and naturally prone to wrinkles; handle gently to preserve fibers.
- Wool / wool blends — suiting weight, warm and structured; often labelled “dry clean” for best results.
- Elastane / spandex (small %) — provides stretch and recovery; common if you want added comfort.
Find the composition and lining details on the care tag inside the waistband or sewn into the side seam.
Model information

Care guide — to keep it lovely longer
Always follow the garment's care label before applying general guidance below.
- General tips
- Turn pants inside out before washing to protect the outer face and pleat detail.
- Wash with similar colours and use a gentle detergent.
- Avoid bleach and harsh stain removers unless the label permits them.
- Air dry where possible—hang by the waistband or lay flat; if tumble drying, use low heat.
- Use a steamer to refresh pleats and avoid flattening them with direct heavy ironing.
- By fabric
- Polyester / blends: Machine wash cold (30°C / 86°F) gentle; tumble low or hang dry. Iron low–medium if needed.
- Viscose / rayon: Hand wash or delicate machine cycle in cold water; reshape while damp and hang or lay flat to dry. Iron inside out on low heat or steam.
- Cotton / linen: Cold or warm wash per label; linen will naturally wrinkle—iron while slightly damp for a crisp finish.
- Wool / wool blends: Dry clean recommended. If washed at home, use cold water and wool detergent, reshape and dry flat.
- Pleat care: Maintain pleats by hanging the trousers so the pleat falls naturally; if needed, re-steam along the pleat’s line rather than pressing with heavy iron.
- Stain removal: Blot immediately, test any cleaner on an inside seam first, and avoid aggressive rubbing. For oil stains, absorb with cornstarch/talc before treating.
- Storage: Hang on a wide hanger or fold along the pleat lines in a breathable storage bag; avoid prolonged direct sunlight.
Style tips
- Office: Tuck in a fitted shirt, add a tailored blazer and pointed heels for a streamlined professional look.
- Casual: Pair with a fitted tee or slim ribbed top and low-profile sneakers or loafers; try a half-tuck to define the waist.
- Evening: A silk cami or fitted bodysuit with a statement belt and heeled mules elevates the silhouette.
- Layering: Cropped jackets emphasize the waist; long coats create an elongated, elegant column—both work well with wide legs.
- Shoe pairings: Heels and platforms lengthen the leg; sneakers and loafers create a modern relaxed look; ankle boots work for cropped or full-length hems.
- Body shape suggestions
- Petite: Opt for a slightly cropped length or have the hem shortened to ankle and wear heels to elongate.
- Curvy: A high-rise cut helps define the waist—tuck tops in or add a belt.
- Tall: Embrace full-length wide legs and chunkier footwear for balanced proportions.
- Accessory tips: A slim belt, structured bag and minimal jewellery keep the look sophisticated; add a bold earring for evening.
- Colour & texture: Neutral tones are versatile; pair statement tops or textured knits to highlight the inverted pleat detail for a fashion-forward look.
Pro tip: Because the inverted pleat adds volume at the front, balance your proportions with slimmer, tucked or cropped pieces on top or a defined waistline.
