How to measure
Use a soft measuring tape. Record in inches or centimeters. Measure either your body (to choose a size) or an existing shirt that fits you well (to compare garment measurements).
Measure your body
- Chest: Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest, under the arms and across the shoulder blades. Keep the tape level and relaxed. This is your chest circumference.
- Shoulder width: Measure from the tip of one shoulder across the back to the tip of the other shoulder.
- Neck: Measure around the base of the neck where the collar would sit.
- Sleeve (for reference): With elbow slightly bent, measure from the center back of the neck, across the shoulder, to the wrist; for short sleeves measure from the shoulder point to the sleeve end.
- Waist: Measure around your natural waistline (where you normally wear pants).
Measure a shirt (laid flat)
- Chest (pit-to-pit): Lay the shirt flat and buttoned. Measure straight across from one armpit seam to the other. Double this number to get the chest circumference.
- Shoulder: Measure straight across the back from shoulder seam to shoulder seam.
- Sleeve length (short sleeve): Measure from the shoulder seam to the end of the sleeve.
- Shirt length: Measure from the highest point of the shoulder (next to the collar) down to the bottom hem.
Sizing tip: compare your body chest measurement to the garment chest measurement. For a relaxed fit add 2–4" (5–10 cm); for a slim fit choose the closer match. If in doubt, size up for comfort.
