How to measure

Use these instructions to measure the shorts themselves (recommended) or to measure your body so you can pick the best size.

Measuring the garment (lay flat)

1. Lay flat: Place the shorts on a hard, flat surface and smooth out wrinkles without stretching the fabric.
2. Waist: Measure across the top of the waistband from seam to seam and double that number to get the full circumference. For elastic/drawstring waists, record both the relaxed and fully stretched widths (then double each).
3. Hips / Seat: Measure across the shorts about 1" (2.5 cm) below the crotch seam and double that number.
4. Thigh: Measure across the thigh 1" (2.5 cm) below the crotch seam and double for full thigh circumference.
5. Inseam: Measure from the crotch seam along the inside leg to the hem.
6. Outseam: Measure from the top of the waistband (center front) to the hem.
7. Front rise / Back rise: Front rise is from the crotch seam to the top of the front waistband; back rise is from the crotch seam to the top of the back waistband.
8. Leg opening: Measure across the hem and double for the circumference.

Measuring your body (to choose size)

1. Waist: Measure around the part of your waist where you plan to wear the shorts (natural waist or lower on the hips). Keep the tape snug but not tight.
2. Hips: Measure around the fullest part of your hips/seat while standing with feet together.
3. Thigh: Measure around the fullest part of the thigh.
4. Inseam (optional): Measure from the crotch to the desired hem length to check where the shorts will fall on your leg.

Fit guideline: Compare your body measurements to the garment measurements. As a general rule, aim for garment measurements that are 1–2" (2.5–5 cm) larger than your body for a snug fit, 2–4" (5–10 cm) larger for a comfortable fit, and 4–6" (10–15 cm) larger for a relaxed/roomy fit. For elastic/drawstring waists you can rely on some stretch—use the relaxed and stretched garment waist measurements to judge fit.

Conversion: 1 inch = 2.54 cm. Round measurements to the nearest 0.25" or 0.5 cm for accuracy.

Materials

Exact fabric and trim details are shown on the product label. Common materials and what to expect:

100% Cotton

Soft, breathable and comfortable for everyday wear. May shrink slightly if washed and dried on high heat; color may fade over time. Machine wash cold recommended.

Cotton / Polyester blends

Combines natural comfort with improved shape retention and lower shrinkage. Easy-care, less wrinkling than pure cotton.

Polyester / Nylon

Lightweight, quick-drying and durable — common in swim or performance styles. Resists wrinkles and dries fast; avoid high heat to prevent heat damage.

Elastane / Spandex (stretch)

Small percentages (typically 3–7%) add stretch and recovery for better mobility and comfort. Avoid high-heat drying and ironing to preserve elasticity.

Mesh lining

Often used in swim or athletic shorts for support and airflow. Rinse after chlorinated or saltwater exposure and hang to dry.

Trims & hardware

Drawstrings, eyelets, zippers and snaps may be used. Close zippers before washing to protect fabric and other items.

Care Guide (to keep it lovely longer)

• Always check the garment care label first — follow any manufacturer-specific instructions.
• Turn shorts inside out before washing to protect color, trims and prints.

• For moisture-wicking or treated fabrics, do not use fabric softener (it can block technical finishes).
• Close zippers and tie or secure drawstrings to prevent tangling during the wash.
• Tumble dry low or, preferably, hang to dry to preserve fabric and elastic. High heat can damage elastic and spandex.
• Iron on low heat if needed, avoiding printed areas and elastic trims. Do not iron mesh lining.
• Rinse swim or active shorts after exposure to chlorine or salt water and hang to dry.
• For pilling, use a fabric shaver carefully. For stains, pretreat promptly and follow label instructions.
• Store folded rather than hung for long periods to avoid stretching the waistband.
