How to measure
Use a soft tape measure and record measurements in centimetres (cm) or inches (in). For consistency, take garment measurements laid flat and double where noted to get circumferences.
Measure the garment (laid flat)
- Chest: Lay the sweatshirt flat and smooth. Measure straight across the front 1–2 cm below the armholes from seam to seam. Double that number to get the chest circumference.
- Body length: Measure from the highest point of the shoulder (nearest the collar seam) straight down to the hem. For consistent results on drop-shoulder styles, measure the center back from the base of the neck to the hem.
- Sleeve length: Measure from the shoulder seam (where the sleeve is attached) down to the end of the cuff. On drop-shoulder styles measure from the actual seam point (it will sit lower than a set-in shoulder).
- Shoulder width: Measure straight across the back from seam to seam. For drop-shoulder garments you can also measure the shoulder-drop distance (from the base of the neck to the shoulder seam) to describe how low the seam sits.
- Hem width: Measure across the bottom hem seam from side to side and double to get the hem circumference.
Measure yourself (body measurements)
- Chest: Measure around the fullest part of your chest with tape level and snug (arms relaxed).
- Shoulder: Measure from shoulder bone to shoulder bone across the back.
- Arm length: From the center back at the base of the neck, over the top of the shoulder and down to the wrist.
- Compare your body measurements with the garment (laid-flat) measurements. If you prefer a roomy drop-shoulder look, size up; if you want a neater fit, choose your usual size or size down depending on the fit chart.
Conversion: 1 in = 2.54 cm (divide cm by 2.54 to convert to inches).
