How to measure
Use a soft measuring tape. For most accurate results measure the shirt laid flat and also measure your body so you can compare and choose the right size.
Measuring the shirt (lay flat)
- Chest (pit-to-pit): Button the shirt, lay it flat and smooth. Measure straight across the chest about 1" (2.5 cm) below the armholes from seam to seam. Multiply by 2 to get full chest circumference.
- Shirt length (back): Measure from the highest point of the shoulder (where the shoulder seam meets the collar) straight down to the bottom hem.
- Shoulder width: Measure across the back from shoulder seam to shoulder seam.
- Sleeve length (short sleeve): Measure from the shoulder seam to the end of the sleeve hem.
- Bottom hem width: Measure across the hem seam from side to side and multiply by 2 for circumference.
- Neck (collar): For collared shirts measure around the inside of the collar seam to get the collar circumference.
Measuring your body
- Chest: Measure around the fullest part of your chest, under the arms, keeping the tape level.
- Neck: Measure around the base of your neck where a collar would sit.
- Shoulder span: Measure from the tip of one shoulder to the tip of the other across the back.
- Arm / bicep: Measure around the widest part of your upper arm if you need extra sleeve room.
Fit guidance: Compare your body measurements to the garment measurements. Typical recommended ease (garment chest minus body chest): slim fit 0–2" (0–5 cm), regular fit 2–4" (5–10 cm), relaxed fit 4–6" (10–15 cm). For non-stretch fabrics choose slightly more ease.
