How to measure (garment)

Tools: flexible measuring tape, flat surface and a ruler. For accurate sizing measure the garment laid flat, smoothed but not stretched unless noted.

1. Waist (laid flat) — Lay the waistband flat and measure straight across from one edge to the other. Multiply that number by 2 to get the waist circumference. For drawstring/ruched waists, take two measurements: relaxed (as-is) and fully extended (pull the drawstring/elastic gently to its natural maximum) and report both.
2. Hip — With the pants laid flat, measure across the fullest part of the seat/hip area (usually 2"–3" / 5–8 cm below the crotch seam). Double the flat measurement for the hip circumference.
3. Front rise — Measure from the top of the front waistband down the front to the crotch seam.
4. Back rise — Measure from the top of the back waistband down to the crotch seam.
5. Inseam — Measure from the crotch seam to the bottom hem along the inside leg.
6. Outseam — Measure from the top of the waistband to the bottom hem along the side seam.
7. Thigh — Measure straight across the leg 2" / 5 cm below the crotch seam and double the number for the thigh circumference.
8. Leg opening / Hem — Measure straight across the hem and double for the leg opening circumference.

Note: Convert inches to centimeters using 1 in = 2.54 cm. When sharing measurements, indicate whether figures are flat (single) or doubled (circumference).
